The US Department of Defense announced that an Iranian Navy helicopter approached a US warship in the Gulf of Oman in what it described as a "serious accident".
"The Iranian helicopter approached the aircraft carrier USS Essex on the 11th of November in the Gulf of Oman, where it flew 3 times and was only 25 meters away," State Department spokesman John Kirby said during a press conference today.
"What happened is dangerous because it could lead to miscalculations even though it ended peacefully," Kirby added.
Iranian media had published a video clip documenting an Iranian military helicopter approaching a US warship in the waters of the Gulf of Oman on November 11.
