Langenpreising - “Against every trend in clubs, parties and unions, the VdK is growing continuously, even or especially in the corona pandemic, with currently up to 250 new admissions per day in Germany”, informed the outgoing chairman Neidhart in the Gasthaus Lintsche in Zusatzorf. In September alone, the VdK Bayern counted more than 5000 new members. In the local association Langenpreising, too, the number of newcomers has increased by 44 to 221 since 2019.

The crisis has clearly shown that “people need us,” said Neidhart. "Competent advice on social law, committed voluntary work and socio-political clout are the three pillars of the VdK," said Neidhart. As he further reported, the regional association has set up a flood relief fund and the local associations - by the way, Langenpreisinger will be 70 years old this Thursday (see box) - to support him as far as possible. In a board meeting called online, the decision was made to donate 500 euros, the chairman announced. The donation was made possible because the traditional senior citizens' excursion was not carried out due to the pandemic and so an amount was left over.

Langenpreisinger local association turns 70: The first task was the war victims, widows and orphans

The VdK local association Langenpreising will be 70 years old this Thursday.

As can be seen from the chronicle, the social association was founded on November 18, 1951 as part of a meeting in the Daschinger inn in Langenpreising.

Municipality clerk Anton Sellmeier was elected chairman and Xaver Greimel was elected as his deputy.

The task of the local chapters was and is to look after the members on site.

Initially, the main task was to look after war victims, survivors, widows and orphans.

Particularly needy members were supported by small amounts of cash from the club's treasury.

The association consistently opened up to broad sections of the population and today offers all citizens advice on social law and representation in court: younger and older people with disabilities, the chronically ill, pensioners and employees.

The renaming of the association to “Sozialverband VdK” in 1990 was the breakthrough.

The former war victims association had developed into a modern social association.

The local association Langenpreising has been actively involved in the annual house collection "Help heal wounds" since 1951.

More and more fellow citizens from the group of people looked after by the VdK find themselves in need through no fault of their own, living below the poverty line or on the verge of subsistence level.

The purpose of this relief operation is to help those affected.

"In recognition of his outstanding services to the Langenpreising local association and in recognition of the loyal compulsory insurance for the disabled", Anton Sellmeier, who had led the association from 1951 to 1985, was appointed honorary chairman of the Langenpreising local association in 1986 by the VdK regional association of Bavaria. His successors were Josef Rott and Emmerich Detterbeck (from 1986 to 1998). Reiner Sebusch held the office until 2008. His successor Adolf Neidhart led the local association for a total of 13 years - until Bruno Janke replaced him. sys

The review was brief: "Corona has brought our country into a completely unknown danger situation and unfortunately also slowed down club life and social activities quite a bit," said Neidhart. The popular Mother's and Father's Day celebrations as well as the carnival wreath are victims of the pandemic. Only recently have the VdKers been meeting again on Fridays from 3 p.m. in the village shop café for the senior regulars' table. Interested people are welcome to drop by.

What the convinced VdKler, as Neidhart calls himself, burns on the nails is a barrier-free community, "so that people with different disabilities and senior citizens can fully participate in public life". Mayor Josef Straßer promised to campaign for accessibility, "because the elderly are a valuable asset with a wealth of experience". Strasser had to confess, however, that the nursing home, which is always under discussion at the Unterwirt, is "not going to be in the cross". So what he has in mind is a multigenerational house.

Under Strasser's leadership, the new election was quickly carried out by acclamation.

The office of secretary will continue to be exercised by Erna Pfeiffer, that of treasurer by Christian Metschar.

Neumaier remains the women's representative.

She is also responsible for birthday anniversaries.

The assessors are Max Endner, Josef Furtner, Adolf Neidhart and Kathi Lenz.

As the new chairman of VG's Neighborhood Aid, former Mayor Peter Deimel finally presented the institution that provides unbureaucratic, social and flexible support in the communities of Wartenberg, Berglern and Langenpreising in emergency situations.
