A slightly different stand sale

When it became clear that the Andechser Christkindlmarkt with its famous living nativity scene on the Holy Mountain would not take place for the second year in a row, the people of Erling tried to bring at least a bit of the Christmas spirit down to the monastery village. Alternatively, a village Christmas should take place on the second weekend in Advent (we reported). This has now also been canceled.

Erling / Machtlfing

- Immediately after the mayor's meeting on Friday, Andechs' mayor Georg Scheitz asked the two market representatives in the local council, Markus Schmolz and Christian Pfänder, to discuss the situation with Sylvia Essig and Peter Kirchbichler from the administration. 25 stallholders were contacted, associations and private individuals from the community who had been preparing everything for weeks. Because most of what is sold is homemade. Whether Platzerl and Stollen from the Erlingen farmers 'wives, liqueurs from parents' initiatives or the artistically designed paper boxes by Erika Schwab. The 69-year-old Erlinger has been represented with her handicrafts for ten years. "I thought to myself, it'll be fine this year, I've done a few more," she says. Because in three weeks it would have been so far.Now the artfully made of bookbinding cardboard and fabric-covered boxes are stacked in her house, which is already "fully nested", she says with a laugh. Because Erika Schwab uses boxes of all sizes for all kinds of things. She always sells everything else at cost price at the Christmas market. Actually.

Mayor Scheitz hurts his soul that even the village Christmas cannot take place. On Monday he tried to organize an alternative sale. Among other things, to enable clubs to generate this income. There is less concern that the peasant women will not get rid of their places and tunnels. “They have their regular customers and know where to contact them,” says Sylvia Essig. Because the stocks of the Erlinger peasant women are always the first to be sold out at the Christmas market. "But all the others, whether with jams or socks ..." says Scheitz. One idea is to set up two stalls at the town hall, in which the respective clubs or Erlingers can sell their homemade products at different times. “Or online,” says Scheitz, that would also be an alternative. At the end of the week he would know more.

In the meantime, everyone is trying not to let Advent pass by without a sound or singing a second time. Last year in Machtlfing the parish council organized an alternative Advent calendar with Michaela Wolf, one where a window “opened” in a different family's house every day and invited to be amazed. The campaign will be repeated this year and Sonja Frey from Erling was so enthusiastic that she initiated the same thing in the monastery village. The first window at the town hall in Erling is to open on Wednesday, December 1st, accompanied by a concert by the Erling-Andechs brass band. This is followed by decorated windows, each day in a different house. Actually, this was also planned with a small supporting program. Actually.

Mayor Scheitz is happy that these advent calendar campaigns can at least create a little Advent atmosphere in the districts.

"Maybe next year in Frieding too," says Michaela Wolf, "that would be nice."
