The Friends of Fathi Muhammad Association for Fine Arts, in cooperation with the Union of Fine Artists in Aleppo, held a group exhibition entitled “A salute to the soul of the late artist Taher Bani” to celebrate the memory of the corrective movement in the Al-Assad Gallery for Fine Arts.

Nouran Jabakji, head of the Aleppo branch of the Union of Fine Artists, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the exhibition contains various artworks in terms of schools, pointing to the importance of the artist Bani, who taught art and was an art critic interested in ancient folklore and depicting the old Aleppo lanes through his paintings.

Ibrahim Daoud, Secretary of the Union Branch, pointed out that the exhibition, which continues until the 23rd of this month, contains 30 plastic paintings in addition to 6 sculptural works, considering that the late Bani was one of the most important artists who enriched the fine art movement in Syria and in Aleppo in particular.

Faisal Turkmani, head of the Fathi Muhammad Friends Association, explained that the exhibition includes classic, abstract and expressive works, in addition to literal paintings in a beautiful artistic style, including works by Syrian artists residing outside the borders of the country who sent their works to participate in this exhibition.

Among the participants in the exhibition, the sculptor Abdel Qader Manafikhi presented a set of wood carvings in memory of the late artist and an affirmation of the important role of art in supporting the fine movement in the city of Aleppo.

The plastic artist Najla Dalati participated in a plastic work that embodies an old neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, in commemoration of the late artist Taher Bani, who was obsessed with reviving the originality and the history of the neighborhoods of his ancient city.

The artist, Taher Bani, was born in Aleppo in 1950. He studied plastic art at the Fathi Muhammad Center and graduated from the Arabic Language Department at the University of Aleppo. He held 12 solo exhibitions, participated in 7 collectives, and issued books documenting the Syrian artistic movement, the most important of which is “The Memory of Plastic Art in Syria” in 3 parts. Pioneers of water photography and the expressive school in contemporary Syrian art. He died on August 4, 2019 following a struggle with illness.
