Memmingen - There will be no Christmas market this year due to the corona.
Representatives of the Bavarian Showmen Association and the city administration agreed on this at a planning meeting on Monday in the town hall.
Instead, like last year, there will be a Christmas booth magic on several squares in the city center. “I am confident that it can be implemented. We look forward to an Advent atmosphere in the city center, ”said Mayor Manfred Schilder. "We are very grateful for this alternative to the Christkindlesmarkt", declared Franz Vetter jun. and sen. in the city Hall. "Last year the magic of the booth was very well received by the citizens and also by the retailers."
The “Christmas shop magic” should start with the long night of shopping on Friday, November 26th and the stalls should stay open until December 30th.
There is no sale on Sundays or public holidays.
Which and how many dealers will be represented with stalls will be clarified in the coming days.
Elementary school children are again contributing to the design of the stalls during the Advent season with a painting competition.
Long night of shopping
The long shopping night “Shopping in the Shine of Lights” is planned for November 26th.
The shops will be open until 10 p.m.
The supporting program will be clarified in the next few days.
Concrete regulations for Advent markets in Bavaria are expected from the state government in the course of the week.
