Bad Tölz - In view of the increasing incidence values in the district and the dramatic situation in the hospitals, Bad Tölz cancels its Christmas market on Marktstrasse.
Bad Tölz is following an agreement made by the 21 district mayors today (November 16): “Unfortunately, Christmas markets are not possible this year in their usual format.” Munich also came to the same decision today.
The state capital has also pulled the emergency brake and canceled its Christmas market on Marienplatz.
The deputy spa and tourism director Susanne Frey-Allgaier is responsible for events at the city of Bad Tölz, she explains the reasons for the inevitable cancellation: to set up barriers on Marktstrasse in order to control the legal rules. "
The problem: The fences are not compatible with the escape route concept in the city center.
In contrast to the city of Nuremberg, which is holding its Christmas market this year, the narrow space on Tölzer Marktstrasse does not offer this space.
Under these more stringent requirements, many people have no desire to visit the Christmas market
Susanne Frey-Allgaier, Deputy Spa and Tourism Director
Frey-Allgaier regrets the decision, but is of the opinion after numerous discussions with dealers and stall operators: It is neither sensible nor desirable to carry out this under the given conditions in the district: “Under these more stringent requirements, many people are not at all interested in visiting the Christmas market . "
Tölz 'mayor on the decision: "inevitable"
Tölz 'Mayor Ingo Mehner is also disappointed.
But he refers to the inevitability of the decision: “I am in close contact with those responsible in the district office, in the other municipalities and in the hospitals.
It is simply irresponsible, in the current situation, to hold an event for five weeks that attracts several thousand visitors every day and at which keeping distances and checking the rules are not realistic. "
Discussions with hospital doctors in the past few days have strengthened Mehner's opinion: “If we do not counter the current situation, we are heading for an increasingly dramatic situation.
The situation in the hospitals is already extremely tense. "
Therefore, the cancellation of the Christmas market on Marktstrasse is the only option.
While a mini Christmas market with five huts was held in Tölz last year, Mehner rejects the concept for 2021.
Many citizens would have used the offer responsibly, but not all.
“Quite a few ignored the necessary rules.
"We won't take that risk this year."
Christmas decorations on Tölzer Marktstrasse
So that the citizens and guests of Tölz do not have to do without a pre-Christmas atmosphere, the city will again put up extensive Christmas decorations on Marktstrasse this year.
On Wednesday (November 17), employees of the municipal depot will put up the Christmas tree at the winegrowers' memorial (from around 1 p.m.).
The nativity scene will also be set up again in the shop windows of the city center.
In addition, the city offers numerous events that can also be carried out under the currently stricter legal regulations.
"We have checked our events and identified a large number of them that we can offer with a clear conscience and in compliance with the 2G rules," emphasizes Frey-Allgaier: Tölzers and our guests offer an atmospheric Advent season. "
