The Plant Protection Department in the Directorate of Agriculture in Daraa Governorate has taken the necessary measures to combat the Fall Armyworm, which appeared in corn fields during the past two seasons.
The head of the Prevention Department in the Directorate of Agriculture in Daraa, Eng. Hassan Al-Smadi, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that technicians in the Plant Protection Department worked to follow up on the fact that some corn fields were infected with the fall crowdworm in cooperation with the agricultural departments and extension units deployed in the governorate and worked to combat it through the use of pheromone traps. and nutritional inhibitors.
Al-Smadi indicated that pest control will continue until the end of the season, in addition to continuing to train farmers through the Farmers Field School on the integrated pest management program and the best ways to control and control the pest to prevent it from reaching the economic threshold.
Al-Smadi pointed out that the Fall Armyworm feeds on all kinds of vegetables and crops and causes a decrease in productivity. It is classified among the dangerous pests that appeared in Africa and gradually moved until it reached the farmers' fields in Syria.
