The European Environment Agency ranked Italy one of the worst countries in the European Union in terms of the number of deaths related to air pollution.
In a report, the agency stated that Italy ranked first in 2019 in terms of the number of premature deaths caused by exposure to nitrogen dioxide, with 10,640 deaths related to air pollution recorded, an increase of 2 percent from 2018.
According to the report, Italy ranks second after Germany in terms of premature deaths related to fine particles polluting, and the death rate due to exposure to ozone in Italy rose by an average of 5 percent to 3,170 deaths.
