The Oberstaufen Park project of the Oberstaufen market with its own tourism business was selected from a total of 31 submissions for one of the coveted main prizes as part of the German Playroom Prize 2021.

The special variety and differentiation of the offer in Oberstaufen convinced the jury as well as the planning implementation: “The park acts as a visitor magnet for families with and without children as well as young and old at a high level of design.

The variety of offers and the modeling of the terrain enable - across generations - a joint, eventful visit.

The regional reference through taking up geographical topics is also worth mentioning. "


Oberstaufen Park cost over 2 million euros

The redesign of the former spa park to "Oberstaufen Park" was completed in autumn 2020 after three years of construction.

It was financed by the market town of Oberstaufen with a total investment of 2.28 million euros.

Almost a third of this amount was covered by funding within the framework of the funding of public tourist infrastructure facilities (RÖFE) of the Free State of Bavaria.

The project was planned and implemented with the planning office geiger & waltner landscape architects from Kempten, who had also submitted the application for the German Playroom Prize.

Together with First Mayor Martin Beckel and Tourism Director Constanze Höfinghoff, they accepted the award in Cologne.


Proud of the recognition

“We are proud of the recognition we have received for the redesigned park area.

Not only because of this award, but above all because of the large amount of positive feedback from residents and guests who use the newly created offer, ”said Höfinghoff and Beckel.


Special thanks go to the manufacturers of the playground equipment both expressed: B. Quappen Holzbau GmbH & Co KG from Sögel, hochkant GmbH from Gestratz-Brugg and Konrad Willar from Augsburg.


The German Playroom Prize is awarded every two years by "Stadt und Raum" -Messe und Medien GmbH in cooperation with GALK, the permanent conference of gardening authorities at the German Association of Cities (DST), and the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) for model and give exemplary leeway.

This year a total of ten prizes were awarded, seven special and three main prizes.
