Police officers from the Northern District Police Border Unit, in cooperation with the forces of the Jordan Valley Valley, thwarted the smuggling of weapons across the Jordanian border last night (Tuesday). Two Kalashnikov rifles, a 16-M rifle and eight pistols were seized, and two Palestinian suspects were arrested.
The smuggling attempt was discovered after an observer identified a suspicious movement near the Jordanian border.
Troops who arrived at the scene arrested the two suspects with bags containing weapons and additional ammunition.
The police said that "the seizure is part of the extensive activity carried out by the Israel Police to locate and seize illegal weapons.
The police also noted that since the beginning of the year, 19 smuggling weapons and drugs in the area have been thwarted, in which 20 assault rifles, 137 pistols and about 80 kg of cannabis worth millions of shekels were seized.
