Kaufbeuren - Since last Wednesday evening, Kaufbeuren has been shining in a very special way again: the video artist Vanessa Hafenbrädl is projecting her total work of art “Encounters” onto the facade of the Kunsthaus as part of “Kaufbeuren lights up 2021”. The video installation also includes a sound collage by the Munich performance artist Anna McCarthy and an illuminated flag gauze by the Dießen textile artist Nani Weixler.

In her facade mapping, Hafenbrädl projects historical portraits and current film recordings of people from Kaufbeur as well as animals, stylized landscapes or even mythical creatures onto a rotating, raw piece of glass made of hand-blown optical glass.

The result is blurring, merging contours and colors.

The viewer's perception is broken and distorted in an appealing way and looks like “Little Moritz” imagines a colorful psychedelic dream.

Meanwhile, on the flag gauze, a narrator seems to float ghostly with the wind and the projections above the crowd.

Other speakers, including Mayor Stefan Bosse or Allgäu comments, can also be heard in sometimes tiny guest roles.

O. Michael Siegmund concludes with the Paurian poem “Kennste dos?” By Heinz Kleinert.

“Kaufbeuren shines” is a format for the promotion of culture by the city of Kaufbeuren and took place for the first time in 2019, always supported by vwew energie. In order to satisfy the longing for light and warmth, especially in the dark season, light artists are allowed to show their work on an annually individually set topic for a while. Their tools are cameras, animations, colors or light sources, their canvas are the building facades, streets and public spaces in the city center. This year the theme is "Encounters". Portraits of historical personalities - the holy Crescentia, Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Theodor Momm or Sophie Gutermann - are juxtaposed with the photos of over 70 citizens of Kaufbeur, who were portrayed in picture and sound on a day of action in the former Geyrhalter-Haus in October 2020. This is how the “genius loci” (the spirit of the place) was captured. An “Advent calendar” available at the Kunsthaus dissolves 24 images of the totally alienated historical personalities with names and dates.

Until November 24th, the 15-minute video installation will be projected onto the facade of the Kunsthaus every day from 6 to 9 p.m. in an endless loop.

The visitors stroll by, linger, and come back again.

For the physical well-being with cold and warm meals and drinks is provided on the Spitalhof by a drinks and a soup cart.
