The GT Neo 2 from Chinese manufacturer Realme is due out this Tuesday in France.
Sold between 469 and 549 euros, depending on the capacity of RAM (8 or 12 GB) and storage (128/256 GB), this smartphone, without really crippling fault, could allow the current 6th seller of smartphones in France to continue to nibble the market for quality terminals at affordable prices.
In short, to be a serious competitor for the manufacturer Xiaomi, the specialist in devices with good quality / price ratio.
We liked
The power.
This is its main quality. No latency or slowdown, the GT Neo 2 is incredibly powerful and fast. A click on an application opens it immediately. The phone contains a new process, touted by the brand: a cooling system based on the application of thermal paste encrusted with microscopic diamonds between the processor and the steam chamber. Thanks to this, the heat is dissipated more quickly, which allows the phone to stay at a suitable temperature. Advantages ? The phone remains manageable - although many manufacturers have made efforts on this - but it remains above all at the best level in terms of performance, the heat can sometimes restrain them. We could test it by playing the usually very greedy PUBG game, we had no problem.Especially since the 6.62-inch AMOLED screen displays adaptive refreshing up to 120 Hz.
The care of.
At first glance, the phone is long.
It is 16.3 cm (when the iPhone is 14.3 cm).
Finally, you get used to it pretty quickly.
It can even be a good point, if you play on your mobile.
That's a little extra - some gimmick will say: the phone lights up on the sides of the screen when a notification arrives (without the entire screen lighting up).
You can deactivate the feature or set the color.
However, we can regret not being able to associate a color with a category of notifications.
Comfortable too, the fingerprint unlock sensor is located on the lower side of the screen.
Another good point: the smartphone is designed with Android 11 to which the manufacturer has added its house realme UI 2 overlay, allowing some customization of the display.

The picture.
Difficult to find fault with on this point. There are three lenses on the back of the phone, the main one rising to 64 MP, to which are added two others - one for the wide-angle (8 Megapixels) and another for macro photos (2 MP). The beast's real strength: its collaboration with artificial intelligence, the use of which can be measured. The phone alone can distinguish what is being photographed - and adapts the settings accordingly. Another advantage: the photos remain of good quality despite the zoom. Gadget (again): in selfie mode (16 MP camera on the surface of the screen), it is possible to modify their face before taking the photo, by enlarging their eyes, by enlarging their cheeks, by reducing the size of his chin ...

Super-fast recharging.
Realme had already prepared us for this, with the GT, released during the summer (and already tested here).
Nothing changes for the GT Neo 2 - although the battery capacity is a bit better: recharging is fast, if not… super fast.
In five minutes, we already gain 20% of battery.
In barely 30 minutes, the phone is fully charged… Bluffing!
Be careful, however, you must use the 65 W power supply supplied with the phone to reach its levels.
Once recharged, the phone easily lasts a day if not longer, depending on use.
We didn't like
His weight.
It is for certain a detail or a habit to take.
If, however, you are looking for a lightweight phone, skip your turn.
Some will also say that it is the compromise to have a powerful phone with an autonomy of this level.
The GT Neo 2 is 200g, heavier than the Google Pixel 4A (143g), iPhone 13 (173g) and Samsung Galaxy S21 (172g).
It is still lighter than a Google Pixel 6 (207 g), the iPhone 13 Pro Max (240 g) and the unbreakable Nokia XR 20 (248 g) that we had already tested there. a few weeks.
The GT Neo 2 is available in black or in a bright green.
It comes with a protective shell.
Verdict
It's hard to find fault with the Realme GT Neo 2 at this competitive price.
Fluidity, photo quality, fast charging… The smartphone is like the perfect phone.
Personalization and functionalities, enabled by the manufacturer's key and its Realme UI 2 overlay on Android, are welcome.
As much as the little gadgets that make the phone, if not unique, original.
In our opinion, the smartphone is suitable for everyone, but certain audiences - such as “gamers” - may find it particularly interesting.
