Marktoberdorf - The news just came.
The city of Marktoberdorf will not hold this year's Christmas market.
The city administration of the independent city just announced this.
Mayor Dr.
Wolfgang Hell questioned the members of the city council immediately before his decision.
The overwhelming majority consider the implementation to be irresponsible in view of the nationwide exploding pandemic and the unchecked increase in the number of intensive care patients and have therefore spoken out in favor of the cancellation.
“We were really looking forward to the Christmas market and the decision was very difficult for all of us.
In particular, the professional existence of showmen and commercial dealers is important to us.
But we can no longer enjoy a Christmas market in an unselfconscious way, while nurses and doctors can barely hold their position on the verge of exhaustion! ”Said the mayor.
The administration has checked all alternatives in order to be able to hold a Christmas market - including a relocation of the location and the distribution of the stalls within the city.
These options have all proven to be unsuitable.
Several stand operators, including the ticket sales that are very attractive for the children, have already canceled on their own initiative in the past few days.
The city of Marktoberdorf refrains from an event with fencing, access control, mask requirements and surveillance by security.
"There would be no more Christmas spirit," says Hell.
The top priority for the city of Marktoberdorf is that schools, kindergartens, retail stores and restaurants remain open.
