Ponchos are sewn at the Söcking elementary school - because the pupils are so cold due to the frequent airing in times of the virus.
About a “creative and funny idea”.
Söcking - No, it shouldn't be the answer to the corona pandemic. Nor is it an attempt to fight the virus with ponchos. Rather, a “creative and funny idea” is currently being implemented in two classes at the Söcking primary school. This is what the headmistress Petra Fromm-Preischl calls the campaign in classes 2b and 4b. A mother had the idea of getting small fleece blankets and sewing them into ponchos so that the children who sit by the windows no longer freeze when the windows are opened to air them.
The rooms are ventilated every half an hour, explains Fromm-Preischl.
With temperatures in the single-digit range, this becomes a cold affair for the children immediately before.
Of course they are allowed to get their jackets, but this is always associated with a certain amount of restlessness.
Hanging blankets is also an option, but it is no longer easy to work with.
So the mother of two primary school children came up with the idea of ponchos.
School companion Kerstin Münch was immediately hooked and sat down at her overlock sewing machine.
“The blanket is cut and the edge is sewn around, that's not magic,” says the 50-year-old, who also likes to sew in her free time.
"And with the ponchos, the children have their hands free and can work well."
There are no ventilation devices in the Söcking elementary school, as in any of the other Starnberg elementary schools, after the city council voted against the acquisition in July.
However, CO2 measuring devices have been set up, explains Petra Fromm-Preischl.
"So far, however, there has not been a classroom in which the traffic light has switched to orange or red," emphasizes the headmistress.
In addition, the windows could be opened everywhere - and now without the risk of frostbite.
