Today, French media announced the discovery of a new mutated strain of the Corona virus in the Brittany region, northwest of France.
According to reports, the virus is completely different from all the previous variables, as it infected 18 children in a school and six adults who had contact with them.
A health official said that the discovery of this strain was first reported on November 11, adding, "The analysis of this strain does not correspond to anything previously known, as it does not resemble the picture of a widespread delta variant, nor that of other worrying strains of corona."
He added that this variant, which he called "1,640RP", is missing a part of the thorny protein that the virus usually uses to penetrate human cells and spread infection in the body, pointing out that it is not clear whether this mutation makes the virus more or less contagious.
For its part, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control announced the addition of the new strain to the list of controlled variants, while the authorities in Brittany said that they had succeeded in tracking all those infected with the variant.
The French Regional Health Agency stated that its investigations indicate that the virus came from abroad, as a resident of Nantes, who was traveling to Africa, transmitted the new strain to the French city of Banaleque.
