A negative corona test is soon often no longer sufficient in Thuringia: In view of the dramatic corona situation in Thuringia, the red-red-green state government is introducing a 2G obligation.

But there are also exceptions.

Erfurt - The Thuringian Cabinet has decided to introduce a 2G obligation for large parts of public life, similar to other federal states.

According to this, only people who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus or have recovered from a Covid 19 disease should be granted access to restaurants, accommodation providers and events.

This was announced by government officials in Erfurt on Tuesday.

A negative corona test is then often no longer sufficient.

The new 2G rules are to be implemented by the municipalities this week and later laid down in a new corona ordinance of the state.

The cabinet decision was preceded by a discussion about the areas in which the 2G obligation should apply.

Initially, exceptions were provided for public events and trade fairs, but were then discarded.

The retail trade, however, remains exempt from the obligation even after the cabinet decision.

The 2G obligation in Thuringia applies above all to guests, customers and visitors, but not to employees.

An unvaccinated waiter, for example, in whose restaurant there is a 2G obligation for guests, can alternatively show a negative PCR test in order to be able to continue his work with customer contact.

Exceptions are also planned for children and young people.

Thuringia is one of the federal states most severely affected by the corona pandemic.

On Tuesday, the seven-day incidence in the Free State was 546.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

Only Saxony and Bavaria had higher values with 759.3 and 554.2 respectively.
