2021-11-16T21:40:21.490Z

At the request of Engelman: his colleague from the United Kingdom will conduct an audit in the Israeli Ministry in 2023 • The goal: an objective audit • Engelman: "Sees great importance in learning from leading institutions"

The State Comptroller, Matanyahu Engelman, met with his British counterpart, Garrett Davis, ahead of the convening of the Executive Committee of the EUROSAI organization, in which the Comptroller serves as Vice President.

The two agreed to conduct a peer review of the British Comptroller on the Office of the State Comptroller.

According to the summary, during the year 2023, a peer review will be conducted by the British Comptroller's Office on the audit processes in the Office of the State Comptroller in Israel.

The cooperation between the two auditors is intended to improve the audit processes in the Israeli State Comptroller's Office, through professional and objective audits conducted among leading state auditor institutions.

The Office of the British State Comptroller is considered one of the leading state audit institutions in the world.

In the years 2021-2020, he coordinated on behalf of EUROSAI the working group on criticism of the world's coping with the corona crisis, in which the Israeli State Comptroller's Office also participated and led a special think tank.

Engelman and Davis discussed diverse collaborations to develop and strengthen state auditing in the financial and economic spheres.

Engelman emphasized the need to strengthen auditing in this area, and presented to the British auditor the concept of auditing and methodologies, as applied in the latest reports of the Israeli Auditor's Office.

In addition, Engelman reviewed with the British Comptroller the main points of the audit report on "Israeli Government's actions and preparations for the climate crisis", as an example of increasing the State Audit's engagement in Israel in systemic and relevant areas, based on future national and strategic risks.

Engelman further suggested that audit topics of common interest be selected for the two ministries, in which a joint audit would be conducted for the purpose of mutual learning and fertilization.

This is similar to the international audit on the future employment market, which was led by the Israel Comptroller's Office in collaboration with six institutions of state auditors from around the world, and which is expected to be published soon in the relevant countries.

It should be noted that shortly after taking office, the State Comptroller spoke with his American counterpart about an intention to conduct a similar peer review, but due to the corona outbreak this did not materialize.

Engelman said: "I see great importance in learning from the world's leading state auditing institutions and in strengthening international ties. I thank the British Comptroller for holding the meeting and strengthening the professional interfaces between the ministries.
