David Gramberg, band leader of Mary Lou, is now starting off alone.

The Schwabsoiener released his debut single "Raise my bet" at the beginning of November.

More songs are to follow.

Schwabsoien

- "Papa, Papa, Papa" - the reason for the band break from "Mary Lou" is quickly summarized. Three band members "became fathers during the quiet time", explains singer David Gramberg. And now he too has “brought his child into the world,” jokes Gramberg. We're not talking about a baby here, however, but his new project: “Raise my bet”, the first song he published as a solo artist. Thanks to his home studio, Gramberg was able to make a lot of music even during the pandemic. Several new songs have been created in this way, which are now to be released little by little.

The Schwabsoiener band "Mary Lou", with whom David Gramberg was on the road beyond the district boundaries and before the lockdown, among other things, appeared as an opening act for Joris, has taken the break for an indefinite period.

Lockdowns last year had made rehearsing together difficult.

And as family fathers, the men don't have that much time either.

“We sat down and thought about how we want to continue,” says Gramberg.

And it was agreed that it is better to go separate ways for the time being.

Nobody wants to slow down the other.

Nervous about a new project

Despite the backing and his experience with “Mary Lou” and “Elephalooka”, it is exciting for him to now perform as a solo artist. One is always a little nervous about new projects, says Gramberg, but this time it was worse: “Because I didn't know how it would be accepted that I would bring out an album on my own,” says Gramberg, who meanwhile could breathe a sigh of relief: “I have a lot of nice ones Get feedback, dear news. I am overjoyed with the response. "

Is the style of music similar to that of "Mary Lou"? “Yes and no,” says Gramberg hesitantly and laughs. He himself finds it difficult to put music in a drawer. “It's definitely going in the direction of indie pop, indie rock, alternative,” says Gramberg. Over time, other facets have crystallized, elements - known and new - from music styles that Gramberg himself likes to hear have found their way into his songs. It has become even more complex, summarizes Gramberg. A friend called his music "gospel pop" - "I can do a lot with that."

As a surprise, his colleague Korbinian Steiger played songs to friends from Belgium before they were released.

With the debut song “Raise my bet”, which tells of the leap into the new and the unknown and calls for people to stand up for their dreams, they had already seen each other dancing at a festival or on a relaxed road trip in the summer.

The good mood song, which you like to listen to in a loop, exudes pure joie de vivre and lightness.

You want to move - just sit still, that's not possible with the energetic “Raise my bet”, the test listeners found.

Gramberg is happy.

“It was exciting to take this step outside to see how the music is received.

You've heard it a million times yourself. "

Concerts planned for 2022

The concert dates, which Mary Lou had already planned for 2020 and postponed further and further, will now be taken over by David Gramberg alone.

Fortunately, the organizers had no objections.

Now Gramberg hopes that it will work out next year, that he will be able to be live on stage again and perform his songs in front of a large audience.

Until then, David Gramberg's songs can be heard on all common streaming platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music and I-Tunes.

Little by little, more songs from the album will be released there.

There is a music video for “Raise my bet” on YouTube.
