Thanksgiving is just over a week away, but for some the holiday trips will begin this Friday.

A significant storm has the potential to disrupt travel plans from the Middle East to the Northeast during one of the busiest times of the year for travel.

We're talking about outages at major airline hubs like Chicago and New York early next week.

"The areas above and possibly some areas below can withstand potentially significant low pressure that would affect parts of the east, and requires monitoring given the busy week of Thanksgiving holiday travel," the Center said Tuesday morning. Weather Forecast (WPC).

The storm system could begin to develop in the Midwest Sunday, strengthening daily.

By the time it approaches the east coast on Tuesday, a secondary system could develop along the coast, exacerbating disturbing weather conditions in places like New York.

"It is too early to resolve the detailed effects of the low pressure that may be near the east coast by next Tuesday, but significant rain / snow and high winds could be possible," says the WPC.

"Although we still have almost a week to go and the forecasts may change, this looks like a storm of planes, trains and cars," says CNN meteorologist Chad Myers.

Storm Forecasts

The only good news: computer forecasting models aren't always correct.

Especially a week in advance.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday night, and subsequently the New York National Weather Service said Tuesday morning, so there is little confidence in the forecast.

By Tuesday afternoon, the forecasting models will have been run again.

The view on Tuesday night, Wednesday, or Thursday might be different than this morning.

It is in the consistency and trends from one model to the next that meteorologists will be watching closely.

This is what will boost your confidence in next week's potential storm.

"Even as the storm recedes on Wednesday, airlines could be dealing with significant prior cancellations with planes and crew members in the wrong place," Myers says.

"This storm comes at a bad time."
