A bus driver was attacked today (Wednesday) by a passenger in his 30s, near Ziv Hospital in Safed.
The incident of violence occurred after the driver asked the passenger to pay for the ride, the passenger punched the driver and then stabbed him using a glass of beer bottle.
The driver was lightly injured and the passenger was arrested by police.
According to the drivers' organization from the Histadrut, in 2020 the drivers experienced 3,644 cases of physical violence.
In practice, the number is much higher as only 47% of cases were reported.
The bus drivers' union said: "Only recognizing bus drivers as public servants can save their lives and the lives of passengers and cause drivers to sit behind bars. Law enforcement agencies must act accordingly. The day a driver kills on the road is closer than ever. Bus terrorism must be stopped against drivers ".
