The CSU member of the Bundestag Alexander Radwan warns of a supply shortage in the clinics.

It could hit anyone.

The 57-year-old therefore urgently calls for vaccinations.

District

- Every minute counts.

When Alexander Radwan was admitted to the Agatharied hospital with a heart attack a good year ago, it took less than two hours before he had an operation and was back to his old life.

"Thanks to the fast and optimal supply, I have no restrictions today," says the member of the Bundestag from Rottach-Egern.

Would it be like that again at the moment?

The 57-year-old has his doubts because of the heavy burden on the health system from the high number of corona sufferers - and appeals to the population to get vaccinated in their own interest.

"Everyone has to do their part"

“Everyone has to do their part so that the situation relaxes,” says Radwan. For him there was therefore no question of getting a booster vaccination now - almost six months after the second vaccination - to protect himself and others. From people who have not been vaccinated, he keeps hearing the argument that Covid will not affect them. This attitude is fatal. "Everyone only talks about himself, while vaccination also has a social effect in order to keep certain diseases and challenges low," says the Rottacher. Last but not least, he is worried that the good local medical care in the district may no longer be available at a certain point. Then it could affect anyone who unexpectedly has to go to the clinic because of a serious illness.

Abolition of the “pandemic situation of national importance” sends the wrong signal

If the CSU politician has his way, the “epidemic situation of national importance” would have been re-established by the Bundestag on Thursday and extended by six months. This would mean that the federal government would still have the reins of action in hand. The amendment to the Infection Protection Act, which will be voted on on Thursday, provides for the addition of a nationwide applicable catalog of possible protective measures. Radwan now fears a patchwork of regulations. "An extension of the epidemic situation is the only thing that does justice to the tense situation," he says. “Repealing them is the wrong signal to the population. There is no relaxation. ”In the current situation, a certain amount of stringency is needed, also to support the countries. In addition, Parliament has it in its hand at all timesto reassess and vote on the epidemic situation.

Compulsory vaccination for certain areas

When it comes to vaccination, Radwan has now changed his mind.

“A year ago I refused it,” says the 57-year-old.

"In the meantime, I think it is correct because of the current developments in areas with people at risk or wherever there are relevant contacts."
