This is the only way to achieve a higher vaccination rate.

Frankfurt - The Corona * numbers are increasing, the vaccination rate is too low. Vaccination incentives like a free currywurst seem like a real joke. Finance politician Christian Görke (Die Linke *) has now made a new proposal on how to get more people to vaccinate. This was reported by the news portal T-Online on Wednesday (November 17, 2021). Every person who is vaccinated should receive a cash bonus of 500 euros from the state - also retrospectively, demanded Görke.

For the first complete vaccination protection, 300 euros per person should be distributed, for the booster vaccination * a further 200 euros.

Overall, this measure would cost the state 37.5 billion euros.

22.5 billion euros would be necessary for the premium for the first vaccination protection.

The second vaccination would cost another 15 billion euros, said Görke, who was Minister of Finance in Brandenburg for five years.

Politicians of the Left Party want to create a new vaccination incentive - 500 euros bonus for the corona vaccination

According to Görke, a large part of the costs would fall in the current budget year. The approved supplementary budget of the federal government amounted to a total of 240 billion euros. But that much money wasn't actually spent. In addition, tax revenues would be higher than expected. The implementation of his proposal is therefore quite feasible for the federal budget, judged Görke. "The funds are there," said the 59-year-old to T-Online.

Görke also sees his idea as the only solution how to contain the coronavirus: “We are seeing that the pandemic is worsening in the fourth wave - everyone is talking about 2G or 3G, but it is clear to everyone: The only way out is vaccination . “The vaccination quota in Germany must be increased to 85 to 90 percent, as the Robert Koch Institute is aiming for.

Currently, only 67.7 percent of the population in Germany are fully vaccinated.

Strengthening the economy: Corona premium as an economic stimulus program

The premium would also not only help people, but also the economy, said Görke. Vaccinations, for example, could prevent lockdowns that cause great economic damage. In addition, classes with a low income would be reached in which the vaccination rate was particularly low. As a result, consumption would increase so that money would flow back into the economy. It is therefore a matter of “a kind of small economic program”. According to the Munich economic research institute Ifo, the economic value of each vaccination dose is around 1500 euros, as T-Online reported.

Görke wants to present his proposal on Wednesday in the parliamentary group meeting of the Left in the Bundestag.

He has already received positive feedback.

“It would be a contribution to cohesion in this society,” said Görke.

"500 euros are appropriate, they are available and they are necessary." (Anna Charlotte Groos)
