Update from November 16, 7.48 p.m.:

Shortly behind the Bavarian border - in the Austrian state of Salzburg - the hospital supply is on the brink. That is why a triage team is currently being put together there to decide which patient will be helped first. In Bavaria, too, the clinics fear that they will soon no longer be able to guarantee patient care. This is what Roland Engehausen, managing director of the Bavarian Hospital Society, told

Münchner Merkur

in an interview. Doctors and nurses are "on duty almost around the clock".

Engehausen stated that planned interventions must be postponed.

"And we are also talking about cancer operations that can be postponed for a few days or, if necessary, weeks - but certainly not for months." The clinics come to a point "at which this is no longer justifiable at some point.

Engehausen calls for a reduction in bureaucracy in the hospitals and more backing from politics.

"We are currently on a hamster wheel that is turning faster and faster in the wrong direction, because the increasing burden in the pandemic is also leading to more and more failures and recently even to layoffs among the staff," he said.

Corona situation in Germany: Hessen opens Christmas market with mobile vaccination station

Update from November 16, 4:44 p.m.:

While the Christmas market at Marienplatz was canceled in Munich today * and new corona measures are decided almost every hour in the individual federal states *, the first Christmas markets are opening in Hesse. In both Darmstadt and Offenbach, the organizers draw an initial positive résumé: "It has been shown that the control of the corona rules by the city police worked well," says a spokesman for the city of Offenbach. At the end of the week, state police officers should assist the municipal security service, he added.

The organizers of the Christmas market in Offenbach, according to their own statements, rely on the observance of the distances in the outdoor area. The 2G rule applies in covered lounge areas and indoors. So only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered have access there. "We could also readjust at any time, for example by putting up a fence to simplify entrance controls," said the spokesman. So far, however, there has been no need for this. A mobile vaccination station is also to be set up over three days.

Even at the decentralized Christmas market in Darmstadt, there have been no abnormalities so far, as a spokesman for the city announced.

In this respect, the concept of distributing booths, stands and rides in different places in the city center takes effect in order to create more space and avoid crowds in narrow aisles.

Depending on the further development of the infection process or on the basis of the resolutions of the Prime Minister's Conference on Thursday, short-term changes, such as mask requirement or limitation of the number of visitors to individual places, are possible.

North Rhine-Westphalia relies on the 2G rule - Saxony goes one step further

Update from November 16, 2:56 p.m.:

Even the state with the most citizens can no longer avoid it: Due to the sharp rise in corona numbers, access restrictions are to be introduced in North Rhine-Westphalia in the leisure area for adults who have not been vaccinated or have recovered. This was announced by Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) on Tuesday after a

cabinet meeting in Düsseldorf. In particularly sensitive areas, even 2G plus should apply - so current tests should also be necessary for vaccinated and convalescent people. This applies, among other things, to carnival sessions, said Wüst.

In view of the dramatically increasing number of new corona infections, Saxony even wants to go one step further and introduce the 2G rule in retail as well.

This tightened measure should apply from the overload level that could be reached by the end of the week, said Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD) on Tuesday in Dresden about the cornerstones of the new Corona regulation.

Exceptions are supermarkets, drug stores, pharmacies and other basic services.

In Saxony, a 2G rule has been in force nationwide for a good week, according to which only those who have been vaccinated and recovered have access to restaurants and other indoor areas, for example.

On Thursday, the Prime Ministers of the federal states will discuss a uniform approach together with the Executive Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

New corona measures: One federal state after the other is introducing the 2G rule

Update from November 16, 2:15 p.m.:

Baden-Württemberg and Hamburg had already submitted 2G regulations on Wednesday, now Thuringia and Berlin are following.

Together with Saxony and Bavaria, Thuringia, which is currently hardest hit by the corona pandemic, is introducing a 2G regulation.

Access to restaurants and events, for example, is only possible for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered, as Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow said on Tuesday after a meeting of his cabinet in Erfurt.

"We have a serious situation," he warned.

Meanwhile, Berlin is preparing the introduction of a 2G-Plus scheme.

The Senate intends to adopt a corresponding ordinance in the coming week, as Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller announced on Tuesday after a Senate meeting.

“The fourth wave hit us completely,” said Müller.

How exactly the regulation is then applied can be chosen by cultural institutions or event organizers.

According to Müller, 2G-Plus can mean, for example, that only vaccinated and convalescent people have access and still have to wear a mask, that 2G prevails and that additional distances are maintained, or that an additional test has to be submitted.

Corona situation continues to escalate: Two countries are now taking action with 2G

Update from November 16, 12.55 p.m

.: After the decision about the 2G rule was made in Baden-Württemberg on Wednesday, Hamburg is now following suit. Because of the rapidly increasing corona cases in Hamburg, unvaccinated people are no longer allowed to enter restaurants, bars and clubs from Saturday. The red-green Senate canceled the 3G model for several areas on Tuesday and instead made the 2G model mandatory. With the 2G model, only vaccinated and convalescent people may be admitted, with the 3G model also unvaccinated people, provided they have a negative corona test.

Update from November 16, 10:44 a.m

.: Bavaria's Prime Minister Söder insists on a uniform 2G regulation throughout Germany.

“I think it's wrong that we are working with a patchwork quilt,” said Söder in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”.

At the same time, he described the plans of the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP to tighten their planned corona policy as a “step in the right direction”.

In addition, there is a need for a recommendation for a booster vaccination from the fifth month *, compulsory vaccination for certain professional groups, contact restrictions for unvaccinated people and more mask requirements in class and in local public transport.

The FFP2 mask must be compulsory there, since controls of a 3G rule are difficult.

Corona in Germany: Unvaccinated people in Saxony face contact restrictions

Update from November 16, 9:08 a.m

.: In Saxony, further corona restrictions for unvaccinated people threaten at the end of the week.

The so-called overload level could take effect in Free State from Friday.

Members of a household are then only allowed to meet with one other person.

Vaccinated, convalescent or children up to the age of 16 do not count.

The 2G regulation then applies to restaurants (indoor areas), clubs, as well as to indoor events and all major events.

The overload level is linked to the bed occupancy in the hospitals.

If over 1,300 Covid-19 patients are treated in a hospital for three days in a row, the overload level comes into effect on the day after the next.

The number was 1,391 on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Corona: Incidence of hospitalization

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions - the RKI stated on Monday as 4.65.

With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.

A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
