The mayor of Cannes, supported by outgoing François Baroin, was widely chosen Wednesday at the 103rd AMF congress, with 62% of the vote.

David Lisnard was elected Wednesday to succeed François Baroin at the head of the Association of Mayors of France, the first representative force of local elected officials in the country.

The mayor LR of Cannes carried the list “Union supported by François Baroin” with the socialist André Laignel, outgoing vice-president.

The scale of the number of voters is unprecedented because electronic voting, accessible to 35,000 members of the AMF, gathered nearly a third of voters.

With such participation, David Lisnard enjoys a solid legitimacy to launch his mandate, after a campaign that will remain singular on the political level because the two candidates in the running had presented competing lists for the office (60 members) and the steering committee. of the AMF (100 members).

What had never happened before in the history of the association.

Emmanuel Macron expected Thursday for the closing speech

This victory for David Lisnard is one of continuity for the AMF. Following in the footsteps of outgoing president François Baroin and his predecessor Jacques Pélissard, the Cannes elected official campaigned by promising to defend the independence of the AMF against this "

unfriendly takeover

" from the macronists, according to the formula of its number two André Laignel, which seemed directly controlled by the Élysée. Although Philippe Laurent has always defended himself from riding for the government, the involvement in this operation of many "compatible Macron" ministers and local elected officials leaves little doubt about the executive's attempt to disrupt the stability of a perceived association. as a hostile force since the start of the five-year term.

Thursday, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, is also expected for a closing speech of the 103rd Congress of Mayors of France.

Protocol requires, the Head of State will have the last word and the mayors have promised to give him a courteous and republican welcome.

But rather than placing a centrist at its head, the AMF will have retained a right / left alliance, as an extension of the action led for seven years by François Baroin and André Laignel.
