Seven months after the inauguration of the 24th Knesset, Knesset Speaker MK Miki Levy decided today (Wednesday) to establish an ethics committee, despite the opposition's refusal to cooperate with it and appoint members on its behalf.

This is an unusual decision made by the Speaker in light of the fact that it consists of four Knesset members, two of them from the opposition factions.

Speaker Levy sent letters of appointment to the Knesset members so that the committee could begin its work, There will be MK Zvi Hauser from New Hope, MK Gila Gamliel from the Likud and MK Yaakov Margi from Shas.

The substitutes will be MK Sharon Rofe Ofir from Yisrael Beiteinu and Osama Saadi from the joint list.

The Speaker of the Knesset said that "this is a reality-bound move for the proper conduct of the Knesset, which has so far been avoided due to the stubborn refusal of opposition members. Tonight, this reality is changing and this is the first step in returning the Knesset to proper conduct. I acted patiently and patiently, despite the personal pressures and attacks against me, in order to exhaust this move, the purpose of which is to preserve the rules of the democratic game. "

MK Levy added that "the blatant escalation in the discourse and behavior of a number of Knesset members, along with the murky and unprecedented atmosphere in the Mishkan, no longer allows for waiting and requires immediate action.
