Today, the People's Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Information and its affiliates for the year 2022, amounting to 17 billion and 230 million Syrian pounds.

A number of members of the committee demanded to raise the implementation rates in the ministry’s programs and projects and to allocate additional appropriations for it, valuing the role and performance of the national media during the years of the terrorist war against Syria in confronting the wars of disinformation and rumors that were broadcast by hostile stations.

The members inquired about the stages reached by the new media law and the digital terrestrial broadcasting project, calling for the expansion of automation projects to include all media institutions, in addition to developing the Syrian Al-Ekhbariya channel, expanding radio and television stations and centers in all governorates, laying the foundations of the electronic media development project, and delivering Syrian radio broadcasts to the lands. liberated from terrorism.

A number of members also pointed to the necessity of amending the Contracts Law in line with the requirements of the current ministry, stressing the importance of the role of the Media Preparation Institute in training, paying the necessary attention to graduates of the College of Media, securing suitable job opportunities for them, and linking them to the labor market.

In response to the proposals, Minister of Information, Dr. Boutros Al-Hallaq confirmed that the Ministry of Information has a special nature that is not calculated by the balance of material profit and loss, but by the amount of influence on public opinion and confronting hostile media, indicating that the Ministry has taken a new angle in work that is commensurate with the transition from a state of war to a state of stability and development. In addition to moving from government media to state media.

The Minister of Information said that talking about media development, its main essence, depends on the development of technology, which is considered to be one of the biggest obstacles the ministry faces, for reasons related to the unilateral Western sanctions imposed on Syria, the exchange rate change and the issue of contracting and contracts.

With regard to the new media bill, Dr. Al-Hallaq indicated that work is still underway on the project to be completed, pointing out that the ministry has begun restructuring most media institutions with the aim of developing the structure of media work and achieving flexibility in it, stressing that the ministry is working within a systematic plan to benefit from the expertise of the workers.
