Augsburg / Füssen - The Swabian district will support the Neuschwanstein Festival Theater for the next four years with cultural funding of a maximum of 150,000 euros per year.

The Committee on Culture and Europe decided that yesterday at the request of the CSU parliamentary group.

"The Festspielhaus is a cultural and social place of overall Swabian importance," says District Assembly President Martin Sailer according to a press release.

"With the funding, we want to do our part to ensure that the Festspielhaus can further develop its enormous potential."

The condition for the funding by the district is that the currently existing deficits are precisely defined, that the funding is in accordance with the state aid regulations and that an agreement is made on the scope and conditions of the district's facilities and the festival hall in the future may use - for example the Swabian Youth Symphony Orchestra, the State Theater Swabia or the vocational school for music.

The funding from the Swabian District is part of an overall package that the City of Füssen, the District and the Swabian District want to put together with the Free State of Bavaria.

The aim is for the Free State to provide 600,000 euros, the district 150,000 euros and the municipality 50,000 euros annually - a total of 900,000 euros.

The deficit of the event house on Forggensee was roughly as high last year.

So far, however, the Free State has only wanted to make its contribution in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity if the municipal level, i.e. district, district and municipality, is also on board.

In recent years, both the district and the city had refused to subsidize the event venue, but have now decided to do so - albeit subject to requirements that the Festspielhaus must meet.

Its operation has also been in deficit since it was taken over by the Marktoberdorf entrepreneur Manfred Rietzler in 2016.

Although the minus has been steadily reduced in recent years, it was still almost a million euros last year.

The deficit has so far been made up by Rietzler.
