A parliamentary committee decided to lift the immunity of the former Austrian chancellor and head of the People's Party Sebastian Kurz on charges of breach of trust, corruption, bribery and perjury, calling for an investigation to begin.
And Austrian TV quoted parliamentary sources as saying today that "the Parliament's Immunity Committee allowed the Economic and Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office to start investigations against the chancellor and refer him to trial if the charges against him are proven."
Kurz had submitted his resignation after several accusations were brought against him over the issue of buying opinion polls and transferring funds from the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance to the party, the chancellery and its election campaigns since 2016, in addition to false testimony in a corruption case that caused the resignation of the Austrian vice chancellor in 2019.
