A man imprisoned for criminal acts in Fresnes prison (Val-de-Marne) voluntarily set his cell on fire on Tuesday and injured himself, said the prison administration, requested by AFP.
In the afternoon, a floor supervisor sounded the alert, allowing agents to come to the aid of the detainee and contain the fire, detailed the institution, confirming information from France 3.

Arriving after the fire had been extinguished, the firefighters found that the detainee was badly burned, they told AFP.
The latter, alone in his cell, was transported to a hospital with a major burns service and four guards who inhaled smoke were taken for observation, continued the prison administration.
