The World Health Organization announced today that Europe is the only region in the world in which the death rate and injury rate from Covid-19 increased in the past week.
In its weekly report on the epidemic, the organization stated that Covid-19 deaths in all regions of the world except Europe remained stable or low and totaled 50,000 worldwide last week.
The organization indicated that deaths in Europe rose by 5 percent, making it the only region that witnessed this increase, and among the 3.3 million new infections that were reported, 2.1 million came from Europe, pointing out that the largest number of cases within Europe were in Russia, Germany and Britain.
The organization noted that infections have decreased in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia since last July.
The World Organization earlier described Europe as "the epicenter of the epidemic" and warned that there could be another 500,000 deaths by next February if urgent measures were not taken.
