At 7 pm yesterday (17th), the AFCD took action on Shum Wan Road in Aberdeen. The police used iron horses to seal the road between Shum Wan Road near the Yacht Club and sailing on the wind. AFCD staff dropped bait. On the other side, the wild boar was surrounded by iron nets, and at the same time, several wild boars were shot at the same time.
Huang Haoxian, the secretary of the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group, attended the scene to protest and rushed into the blockade and was dragged away by personnel.
The Fisheries and Conservation Department stated that the veterinarian used an anesthesia gun to capture 7 wild boars and used drug injections for humane destruction. The operation was completed at 10 pm.
The Protection of Animals Association of Hong Kong (SPCA) posted a post on its social media page at midnight today (18th), stating that it had contacted the AFCD through various channels to request a response.
In its post, the Association reiterated that in any case, wildlife management should first adopt non-lethal methods. The Association opposes the hunting of wild boars and the use of lethal methods to manage wild boars.
Prior to this, the association had submitted an objection to the relevant measures to the AFCD, but it was not accepted.
The Association strongly opposes this operation and will continue to follow up with the AFCD through various channels.
