A wild boar bite a male auxiliary police officer in North Point last week. The AFCD subsequently announced that it would regularly capture and humanely destroy wild boars that haunt the urban area. This practice has caused social controversy.

This (17th) night the AFCD took action on Shum Wan Road in Aberdeen. At about 7 p.m., the police used iron horses to seal Shum Wan Road near the Yacht Club to the sailing road. Afterwards, AFCD staff dropped bait. On the other side, the wild boar was surrounded by iron nets. After that, the personnel fired anesthesia guns. A small wild boar fell to the ground immediately, and the other larger wild boar was shot with two anesthesia guns and was unable to float on foot.

AFCD officers then carried away the fainted wild boar.

The operation ended at about 10 pm. Sources on the scene stated that a total of 7 wild boars were captured and blood stains were left on the ground.

Huang Haoxian, the secretary of the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group, attended the scene to protest and rushed into the blockade and was dragged away by personnel.

After the police arrived at the scene, they found five wild boars lying on the side of the road, sleeping soundly, and several construction workers nearby took pictures.

Wong Ho-yin, director of the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group, attended the protest. He claimed that in the North Point wild boar attack, the wild boar was injured and forced into poor alleys to protect himself. He hoped that the public would understand that wild boars would not actively attack humans.

Wong Ho-yin also criticized the government for mismanagement and failed to increase resources to treat animals. He believes that the government and the department should add a cooling-off period to the policy instead of "one size fits all."

During the period, Huang Haoxian rushed into the blockade and was pulled away for search.

The assistant director once said that 5 operations per month were aimed at wild boars used to infested urban areas

In the evening, wild boars were seen walking slowly on the road at the scene, sometimes close to the pavement for food, and sometimes lying on the pavement.

The Fisheries and Conservation Department stated earlier that under the new strategy, the department will conduct wild boar capture operations every month, saying that it will use anesthesia guns to capture target wild boars and carry out humane destruction, where wild boars are infested in large numbers, have injured people or pose a danger to the public. , Will be processed first.

The Assistant Director of Fisheries and Conservation Department, Chen Jianfeng, said earlier that the department would conduct regular operations five times a month. It also claimed that the operations were only targeted at wild boars habitually haunting urban areas and would not catch wild boars in the suburbs.

There were wild boars roaming on the pavement before the action.
