Chancellor Angela Merkel said today (Wednesday) that the state of the outbreak of the corona virus in the country is "dramatic". She called for speeding up the distribution of booster vaccines and called on those who are afraid to get vaccinated to change their minds against the background of the spread of the fourth wave in Europe. According to the World Health Organization, only in Europe was there an increase in the number of deaths this week - 5%, with the jump in morbidity on the continent continuing for the seventh week in a row.

Germany recorded 52,826 new diagnoses in the last day, a jump of a third compared to last week and another daily record, in addition to 294 deaths, and a total of 98,274 since the outbreak of the plague. "It is not too late to get the first dose of the vaccine," Merkel said at a conference of German mayors. "Everyone who gets vaccinated protects themselves and others. And if enough people get vaccinated, this is the way to get out of the epidemic."

Only 68% of the people in the most populous country in Europe are fully vaccinated - a rate lower than the average in Western Europe. Only 5% of German citizens, many of whom are suspicious of vaccines,Accept the dose of impulse.

Merkel, who has served as transition chancellor since the September election, said a national effort is needed to expand the mass distribution of booster vaccines.

She also called on senior federal government officials and regional leaders, who will meet tomorrow, to agree on a move that would lead to tighter restrictions based on the weekly number of hospitalized patients.

German Health Minister Jens Safhan said the country has enough rations for those who want to receive the booster vaccines, in part after it rejected the plan to donate vaccines to the international COVAX venture to distribute them among poor countries.

The Social Democrats, the Greens and the Free Democrats, who are negotiating the formation of the next government, are expected to propose a series of measures to fight the epidemic in a bill that will be tabled in parliament tomorrow.

They want to require passengers on public transportation and work to present a vaccination certificate, a negative corona test or proof of recovery from the virus.

In the Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia, daily records were set today in the number of people infected, a day before they are due to approve new restrictions to stop the outbreak. In the Czech Republic, the daily number of diagnoses soared to 22,479, easily surpassing the previous record set on January 7, in almost 5,000 cases. Just over a week ago, only about 8,000 new diagnoses were registered.

Outgoing Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babish has said the government is considering several new measures, including a closure on the unvaccinated similar to neighboring Austria. Another step being considered is to restrict entry to public events or to restaurants and bars based on Corona test results.

Slovakia recorded 8,342 new cases, above the previous record of 7,244 cases set on Friday. The Slovak government is planning new restrictions on the unvaccinated because the country's hospitals are flooded with corona patients.

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Hager said his cabinet would vote tomorrow on recommendations from a group of experts, including banning unvaccinated citizens from entering non-essential shops, malls, gyms, pools, hotels and mass public events.

The restrictions, if approved, will last for three weeks.

The Slovak Ministry of Health said 81% of the 2,879 corona patients hospitalized had not been vaccinated against the virus.

Vaccination rates in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are below the average of the 27 EU countries.
