Iranian police seized more than 3 tons of drugs in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Brigadier General Ahmed Taheri, commander of the internal security forces in the province, as saying today: "After monitoring and following up the movements of members of a drug smuggling gang and in a coordinated operation, the police managed to seize 3 tons and 50 kilograms of drugs during an operation in the province."
Taheri indicated that during the operation, eight members of the gang were arrested and quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized.
The Iranian authorities are continuing their campaigns to pursue drug smugglers and dealers in several regions. A few days ago, they announced that they had seized about 25 tons of them within six months.
