The reader can briefly recognize the small and large stories, the special and extraordinary sides of the High Castle of Bad Grönenbach.
How did a graphic artist come up with the idea of making an illustrated book about the Grönenbacher Hohe Schloss? Quite simply: “I've always been fascinated by this imposing building! Is it because my father lived there briefly as a small child during the war years? Or that my great grandpa was once a caretaker in the castle? Or is it just that uplifting sight over the roofs of Bad Grönenbach? Probably a little bit of everything and yet so much more! Because history - especially that of my immediate surroundings - interests me, ”Manske explains the idea for the realization. So he read in, but also spoke to people who knew stories about the High Castle. More and more parts of a colorful mosaic came together to create exciting patterns. So it was,that he led visitors through the old walls for a few years as a night watchman or together with his colleagues as a castle attendant. "Here I was able to fill the history and also all the little stories and anecdotes at their place of origin with new life", explains Matthias Manske.
According to his ideas, this illustrated book should keep the shape of the High Castle in memory, which he and many Bad Grönenbach residents knew.
“I'm not looking sadly into his future, but am happy that more stories will follow.
And who knows: Maybe one day they will tell an anecdote about the “night watchman” from the High Castle, who wrote a book about the same, ”smiles Matthias Manske.
