Ochsenhausen - The city administration and the trade association Ochsenhausen have decided to cancel the "Christmas market in the Baroque kingdom of heaven" in view of the rapidly increasing number of corona infections.
"It was with a heavy heart that we decided to cancel, but the current infection situation requires that contacts be reduced as much as possible," said Mayor Andreas Denzel. "After more and more stand operators canceled their participation on their own initiative, only a tiny fraction would have been left," explains the mayor of the decision. The chairman of the trade association, Oliver Schiele, also understands the decision, because "everyone's health has absolute priority." He is convinced that the Ochsenhausen retailers and restaurateurs will make all the more efforts to do Christmas shopping or a stop for customers and guests as pleasant as possible.
For the visitors of the monastery district, however, two important messengers of the Christmas season will not be omitted: both the nativity scene and a festively decorated Christmas tree have been set up on the square in front of the basilica in the last few days. "We see this as a sign of hope that we can visit a Christmas market around the crib again next year," said those responsible. Mayor Denzel suspects that the cancellation will also be a bitter disappointment for visitors who have previously traveled from afar either by bus or by the Öchsle train. Because the popular winter steam trips have also been canceled. The risk of infection would be too high.
The Ochsenhausen Chamber Orchestra also wants to organize its two planned concerts next year if possible.
"We want to protect the concert-goers and our musicians as best as possible," said chairwoman Sonja Schühle.
All those involved in the “Christmas market in the Baroque kingdom of heaven” were informed accordingly by the city administration and the trade association.
The letter closes with the request that everyone should already note the date for the coming year, namely November 24th to 27th, 2022, and that they will see each other again "under hopefully more favorable framework conditions".
And everyone in charge is united by the endeavor that the Christmas market should be all the more beautiful in 2022.
