Ancient pipes and a crumbling road: Between Bergham and Wettlkam, the Otterfing community dragged two large construction sites with them for years.

Land negotiations got stuck again and again.

Now the knot was undone.

The new water pipe should be ready this year.

And next year it will finally be the turn of the road.

Otterfing -

The new water pipeline from Bergham to Otterfing is largely finished.

Wettlkam should soon be supplied as well and safely as the other districts.

The new pipes are mostly buried on dirt roads, the municipal road did not have to be torn open.

In general, messing around on the battered roadway will no longer be necessary, because it will be redeemed next year: the community finally wants to build a new road.

Building authority manager Hubert Zellner expects costs of around one million euros.

It is still unclear how high the state subsidy will be.

Cost: around one million euros

"Our goal is to build the road as quickly as possible now," says Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD) on request. After years of negotiations, it was possible to find a "sensible solution" with the neighboring property owners. The strip of land that is now available is therefore sufficient to expand the new route to a carriageway width of 4.75 meters (with shoulder 5.50 meters). Two passing points are planned to facilitate oncoming traffic on the 1.66 kilometer long passage between Bergham and Wettlkam.

In order to be able to advertise the work for next year, however, the funding notification from the Free State is still missing.

According to Zellner, there is a fundamental prospect of subsidies.

However, it is questionable how high the grant will be in view of the planned width of the lane and the envisaged procedure of the "milling recycling process";

In this process, the milled asphalt is mixed with binding agents and immediately re-installed as a base course for the new route.

The new street will come out a little higher than before, but the construction costs will save disposal costs.

"We wait for the funding decision, then the municipal council will decide whether construction will take place in 2022," announced Falkenhahn.

Otterfing is hoping for grants from the Free State

The renewal of the water pipe was brought forward this year. “That was the top priority,” says Falkenhahn. Wettlkam still drinks from cast pipes that were laid in 1903. A secure supply of all customers in Wettlkam proved to be more and more difficult. Including the preparatory work in the Bergham network, the municipality is investing around 850,000 euros in the line to Wettlkam. The pipes were traditionally buried on the dirt road passages. "We are almost done with that," says Zellner. The sections immediately before Bergham and Wettlkam are still missing, where the line has to go into the street; Here the municipality relies on the directional drilling method: a drill head works its way between two pits underground and pulls the pipe. Expensive digging is unnecessary. During the work, which according to Zellner is planned for the beginning of December, the road must be closed: "We hope that the weather will play along and that we will get everything ready this year."

Before the new line is opened, the competition cameras must adjust to the new water pressure.

"Before we turn up the speed, the competition cameras have to be prepared," says Falkenhahn.

All households are contacted in order to have pressure reducers installed at the house connection if necessary.

Zellner recommends making appointments with water warden Konrad Eder.

As a precaution, a central pressure reducer has already been installed at the interface in Bergham.
