There were more disputes in families during Corona: 31 percent (%) of parents spent more time with their children than before the Corona crisis, but 77% of families reported an increase in scolding and shouting to resolve disputes in theirs Family experience.

In order to get an insight into the special situation in the past kindergarten / school year, the municipal education management in the district carried out a parent survey. With over 1,000 participants in the two-week survey, many new insights were drawn. “Parents' employment situation” was identified as the first point. More than half of the respondents said that they could live comfortably with their household income, 40% “got by” and 8% reported that they found it difficult or very difficult to get along with their household income. However, this differed depending on the family composition: 22% of the parents with whom the partner did not live in the household and 33% of the single parents had difficulties with their income.

Another focus of the survey was "the emotional aspects" such as fear, crying, nervousness, anger, sadness and happiness, which were measured and taken into account. According to the parents, at least one emotional aspect deteriorated in 70% of the children. Example: distractible / unfocused (scale “very often” and “often”) before Corona: 11.1%; during Corona: 35.3% fears / fear (scale “very often” and “often”) of Corona: 4.5%; during Corona: 28.3%. The topic of “media behavior” was also researched within the scope of the survey. 70% of the participating parents stated that their children used television, YouTube and streaming services much more frequently during the Corona crisis, while 53% of those surveyed said that their children were significantly more likely to use computers, tablets,play on the mobile phone or a game console.

The survey in detail

In the parent survey, which was carried out from September 14th to September 28th, 1088 parents from all 16 district communities and the large district town of Dachau took part.

45.5% of the children of the parents surveyed attended a day-care center while 55.5% attended a primary school.

The focus was on two things: the burden on parents and children as well as changes in the family climate;

the psychosocial changes and well-being of the children during this time.

Based on the survey, experts from day-care centers, schools, the school psychological counseling center, youth social work and other relevant bodies in the education sector will now analyze the results in depth and identify needs.

All evaluated, descriptive results of the parent survey can be seen at www.landratsamt-dachau.de/bildungsmanagement.

All information is also presented there separately for day-care centers and primary schools.
