As-Suwayda-Sana
As-Suwayda Governorate produced about 12 tons of honey during the current year after the end of harvesting operations, through 3,986 cells.
The assistant director of As-Suwayda Agriculture, Eng. Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA Economic Center that production was less than expected and witnessed a decline as a result of the drought conditions during the season, which negatively affected the pastures, as well as the emergence of heat waves that shortened the flowering period for some types of nectar plants.
Shehayeb said: Beekeeping has been revived in Sweida during the past two years, indicating that the Directorate encourages breeders to increase their production based on the importance of working in this sector as a source of income for some families and securing the local market's need of the material.
There are 400 breeders in As-Suwayda Governorate, while the amount of honey production reached 21 tons last year.
