District - The road maintenance department in the Miesbach district is ready with 54 clearing and gritting vehicles.
Even now - without snow - there is winter service.
It has already snowed in the mountains and it won't be too long in the plains either.
The four road maintenance depots of the State Building Authority Rosenheim in Ebersberg, Rosenheim, Ampfing and Hausham are already in action against icy roads and snow.
So winter can come.
"We are responsible for winter maintenance on all state and federal highways as well as some of the district roads in the districts of Ebersberg, Rosenheim, Mühldorf and Miesbach," explains Axel Reinicke, who is responsible for road maintenance at the Rosenheim State Building Authority.
Thanks to modern technology and extensive knowledge of the weather, the mode of action of thawing substances and the possible uses of the vehicles, around 100 employees can react at an early stage so that the road network remains safe and efficient.
54 clearing and gritting vehicles ready
The operation starts already in the night. “In shift work, we observe the road condition and weather forecasts to find out where it could be slippery,” explains Axel Reinicke. “The operations managers have a dense network of road weather stations and ice warning systems at their disposal, which provide information on the road temperature and humidity.” Before the rush hour, at around 4 am, the employees carry out the first scans. This is to prevent the slippery road from occurring in the first place. Instead of wet salt, a salt-water solution is used, the so-called brine.
When it actually starts to snow, 54 clearing and gritting vehicles are ready.
Now the employees have to act quickly if the heavily loaded federal and state roads are to remain passable.
It takes around two to three hours for a winter service vehicle to drive its assigned route once - including reloading with salt and refueling.
In action around the clock
Winter service is on duty around the clock.
Sufficient amount of grit is available.
“Even in the event of a long winter, the supplies in the litter halls are sufficient,” says Axel Reinicke.
“Should it ever run out, the road maintenance depots can access one of the regional central halls.
A subsequent delivery is always guaranteed there. "
But drivers are also important in winter.
“When it's cold outside, caution is advised on the streets,” appeals Stefan Leitner, division manager for road construction at the State Building Authority in Rosenheim.
"Therefore: drive carefully, be considerate of the slow moving winter service vehicles and keep
your
distance so that clearing vehicles can
maneuver
if necessary."
