Senegalese opponent Barthélémy Dias, candidate for mayor of Dakar, was arrested again Wednesday, November 17, a week after being detained following clashes between his supporters and the police, told the AFP one of his lawyers, Me Cheikh Khouraissy Ba.

His arrest was neither confirmed nor denied by the police.

Barthélémy Dias, fierce opponent of President Macky Sall, had already been arrested and detained by the police for a few hours on November 10, along with two other opposition figures, Ousmane Sonko, announced as one of the main contenders for the presidential election of 2024, and Elhadji Malick Gakou, former minister. They had been arrested following violence between their supporters and the police on the way to the court where Barthélémy Dias was to appear for a 2011 case. The politician was to respond on appeal with other defendants of the death of a man shot dead in a context of political violence.
Barthélémy Dias, mayor of Mermoz-Sacré-Coeur, a municipality of Dakar, is the candidate of a coalition of opposition parties for mayor of Dakar in the municipal elections of January 2022.
