The 2G rule applies at FAU Erlangen: Unvaccinated students can no longer take part in face-to-face events.

That caused some anger.

Nuremberg - The 2G rule has been in effect at the University of Erlangen * -Nürnberg * since November 15, due to corona.

Unvaccinated students are therefore no longer allowed to take part in the face-to-face events in the lecture halls, reports

nordbayern.de

.

In libraries, study rooms, computer rooms and self-study areas, on the other hand, 3G prevails - as is the case with practical events.

The measure should "not only serve the safety of the students and teachers, but also prevent a renewed lockdown in the presence of the universities and colleges", the FAU informed its students and employees.

Nuremberg: Safe presence operation is the most important thing

The decision to use 2G in university operations had been heatedly debated in the region and throughout Germany.

“It was clear to us that we would take a pioneering role here and would probably trigger a public discussion,” says FAU President Joachim Hornegger.

The main focus, however, is on a safe presence operation - also with regard to a possible worsening of the pandemic: "I think we have found a good compromise."

Nuremberg: 2G status is randomly checked

Nevertheless, the FAU received a lot of inquiries. However, they mostly concern the conversion of the courses to hybrid and digital formats. Unvaccinated students can follow the lectures via synchronous transmission. Only if a hybrid format is not possible should the lessons take place entirely online. In lectures with up to 50 participants, teachers will check the 2G status. At larger events, a security service should carry out random checks, as

“Nobody at FAU is locked out or driven off the campus,” assures a spokeswoman for FAU.

Students should be able to continue their studies regardless of their vaccination status.

The Bavarian Ministry of Science made this a condition for introducing the 2G rule.

Nuremberg: University management does not expect any problems with online lessons

FAU President Hornegger is optimistic about the switch to hybrid or digital offerings: “We started the winter semester in attendance with the stipulation that all courses can be switched over completely to online within a very short time, if necessary and when the pandemic demands it.

So we don't expect any major problems here. "

The student representatives at FAU support the measures taken by the university management.

In the past few weeks, numerous e-mails from concerned students have been received by the spokesperson's council, reports the chairwoman of the student convention, Luisa Weyers.

Many senders wanted stricter hygiene measures, as well as stricter implementation and controls.

"With the newly introduced 2G concept, we recognize our responsibility and are entering into a compromise between the desire for safe classroom teaching and studyability for everyone," explains Weyers.

Nuremberg: Criticism from RCDS, FDP and AfD

The Ring of Christian Democratic Students in Bavaria (RCDS) criticizes the introduction of 2G.

He wants to introduce free PCR tests for students.

This should enable face-to-face teaching based on the 3G plus principle.

In addition, the digital offers at the university are still in need of improvement even after three semesters of online lectures.

The science policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament, Wolfgang Heubisch, sees it similarly.

The 3G rule should continue to apply at all universities and colleges in Bavaria: “Even not fully vaccinated students have a basic right to education, research and teaching.

Every student must have the same requirements for studying and thus also the right to face-to-face events - provided that these take place. "

Meanwhile, the Nuremberg AfD member of the Bundestag, Martin Sichert, has taken a drastic measure on his social media channels.

Under the hashtag # WehretdenAnfänger, he offers every student there to finance a lawsuit against the 2G regulation at universities.

Nuremberg: Holocaust comparisons on social media

Speaking of social media: The heated discussion about the 2G regulation continues there - fascism and Holocaust comparisons by 2G opponents included.

"We are shocked at the abysses that open up in our society because of a sensible and comprehensible decision that protects the health of all," says Luisa Weyers from the FAU student council.

The introduction of 2G is currently not planned at the Technical University of Nuremberg.

The 3G certificates are randomly checked there.

According to the TU, 90 percent of the students checked are vaccinated and three percent have recovered.

For the time being, the Evangelical University in Nuremberg does not provide for a 2G.
