The family of Mahmoud Odeh, a resident of Jaljulia who was shot to death due to a mistake in identification, today (Wednesday) criticized the lack of enforcement in Arab society, came out against the contemptuous attitude of the authorities and called for further investigation into the murder of their 52-year-old relative.

His brother, Odeh Odeh, told of an ordinary man, the father of five children, including two with disabilities, who went to the funeral of one of his relatives and did not return alive.

"There was probably someone from the underworld who wanted to eliminate him, and when he got out there, shots started. He was behind the one who was going to shoot him and got a bullet in the head," the brother said.

"I have one question: What are the government, the police and the GSS doing?

They can stop this violence in 24 hours, that's what we say on the streets.

"Unfortunately, it does not interest them, they treat us as if we do not have a blue ID card," he continued.

A preliminary investigation of the incident revealed that the person who was the target of the assassination attempt was a 25-year-old man who was seriously injured.

Later in the day, the family will take a convoy from the council to the National Center for Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir to receive the body and go to the funeral.

"A person leaves the house and does not return."

"If my brother was a criminal - well, you could say he went that way then he deserves it. But a 52-year-old guy who doesn't come home, what can you say?", Odeh said.

"A week or two ago the owner of a mobile phone shop in the council was shot in the leg. Half an hour earlier the police called him and told him that his life was in danger. So why not protect him? Why after half an hour did he get a bullet in the leg?".

He emphasized the gap that he claims exists between enforcement actions in Jewish and Arab localities.

"What hurts is that if a resident from the seat next to us had received the bullet - within an hour it was already known who killed him and he was already in custody. With us no, I do not know why. We are killed every day or two."
