The American newspaper The Hill revealed that the murder rate in Washington rose to its highest level in 16 years.
The newspaper pointed out that the Washington Police Department data shows an increase in the number of murders this year by 13 percent compared to last year, when 199 crimes were recorded, most of which victims were of African American descent.
The recent increase in the number of homicides in Washington comes with soaring murder rates across the United States. The FBI's consolidated crime report released last September showed that homicides increased nearly 30 percent year-on-year from 2019 to 2020.
