The state of Hesse announced on Wednesday that the capacities for this would be significantly expanded. As of Wednesday (November 17), 66.8 percent of all people in Hessen were fully vaccinated, according to the Robert Koch Institute, and 70 percent had been vaccinated at least once.
Looking only at the adult population group (over 18), the rate of those fully vaccinated is 77.4 percent and 80.9 percent with a vaccination.
Around 8.7 million corona vaccinations have been administered in the state so far.
Currently only people over the age of 12 can be vaccinated; no vaccine has yet been approved for younger children in Germany.
The Vaccine Commission is currently recommending third-party or booster vaccinations for patients with immunodeficiency and people aged 70 and over.
The prerequisite for this is that the first series of vaccinations has been completed at least six months ago.
In principle, however, anyone who has been vaccinated can receive such a booster vaccination.
According to the RKI figures, they have already received a good 305,000 Hessians.
The number of weekly corona vaccinations in Hesse has more than doubled from around 60,000 to 130,000 since the beginning of September, said Minister of Social Affairs Klose.
"This number will increase significantly in the short term." It should also help that the federal government provides vaccines faster than before.
So far, this has to be ordered two weeks in advance.
The President of the Hessian State Medical Association, Edgar Pinkowski, called on the doctors to continue to work hard in the vaccination campaign.
"In order to continue to effectively contain the corona pandemic, we must do everything we can to increase the number of first and second vaccinations and to provide all over 70-year-olds and those at risk with booster vaccinations as soon as possible."
The Hessian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and the Hessian General Practitioner Association also encouraged patients to understand, in order to take the "currently great pressure" off of the medical practices.
