Conmebol suspended Uruguayan referee Andrés Cunha and VAR manager Esteban Ostojich, also from Uruguay, for an indefinite period of time for their performance in the match between Argentina and Brazil played on Tuesday, November 16 for the South American qualifiers.
The decision of the Conmebol Referees Commission, published on the association's official website, establishes that both Cunha and Ostojich "have made serious and manifest errors in the exercise of their functions in the development of the match."
Specifically, the commission points to the judges for the play in which the Argentine defender Nicolás Otamendi hit the player Raphina with his arm 33 minutes into the first half.
The play, which for Conmebol was "violent behavior" since it endangered the physical integrity "of the England Leeds midfielder, was analyzed by the VAR at the time, but concluded that it had not been aggression.
