The annual memory training for Poingen seniors usually starts in November.

Due to Corona and for another reason, the offer is no longer available.

Poing - After more than 20 years, Hans Bayerl has to give up memory training for senior citizens.

That always took place between November and March, due to Corona this was no longer possible a year ago, now the final end.

Also, but not only because of Corona.

Poing: Leiter also stops for health reasons

"The years have not passed me by without a trace, I too have to pay tribute to my age," says the 80-year-old.

For health reasons, he had already considered stopping the memory training or transferring the management to someone else.

He didn't find anyone, which is why the two situations have now led to the end of the offer.

Corona memory training not possible

Around 15 people always came to memory training to keep their mind and spirit fit with various exercises.

Such a meeting in closed rooms is not possible because of the corona pandemic, says Bayerl.

"We usually always sit in a circle, but doing that at a distance of one and a half meters is not possible." Because age makes people difficult to hear and: "The atmosphere is missing."

Currently there are no senior afternoons either

Memory training is or was also a good opportunity for senior citizens to get out of their homes and meet others.

As was the case with the senior afternoons organized by the local workers' welfare association - they have also not existed in Poing since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

Senior Citizens' Advisory Board Poing remains active

The senior citizens' advisory board, which was set up a good 25 years ago, will in any case remain in place, confirms Hans Bayerl.

He is still its spokesman and only organized a bus tour through Poing together with the community in October.

At various stations (especially in the new development areas), Mayor Thomas Stark explained current projects and construction plans.

This enables those citizens who are no longer so easy to walk to get to know their place better.

The walking group of the senior citizens' council and the theater group are still active.

There is also a bowling group as well as the surprise trips for seniors.

However, it is also paused because of the corona pandemic.
