Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari discussed today with the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the sisterly Republic of Iraq Nizar Al-Khairallah and the accompanying delegation issues of common interest between the two brotherly countries and ways to strengthen bilateral relations and push them forward.

Dr. Al-Jaafari praised the existing cooperation between the two brotherly countries, expressing his thanks to the Iraqi officials for the decisions they took to settle the residency status of Syrian citizens residing in Iraq, which reflected positively on the Syrian citizens and the work of the concerned authorities in both countries.

Dr. Al-Jaafari stressed the geopolitical importance of both countries and that the fateful challenges they face require them to increase joint cooperation, reviewing in this context a number of issues that require intensifying cooperation and coordination to improve the economic and social conditions of citizens in both brotherly countries, most notably the issue of water, organized crime, antiquities trafficking and smuggling, and alleviation of The negative effects of unilateral coercive measures.

Dr. Al-Jaafari pointed out that cross-border terrorism, which destroyed cities and metropolises in both countries, would not have continued and spread with this force had it not been for the presence of countries that sponsor and finance it and provide it with equipment, weapons and information, indicating that despite all that support, the two countries were able to destroy the structure of terrorism and thwart what was planning for the region.

Dr. Al-Jaafari stressed the need to intensify bilateral cooperation to eradicate terrorism from its roots in both brotherly countries, congratulating the Iraqi leadership and the Iraqi people on the arrest of the former deputy leader of the terrorist organization "ISIS".

For his part, the Senior Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the common denominators between the two countries and that the challenges are one before them, and therefore the development of bilateral relations has become an imperative to confront these economic, political and social challenges, expressing his hope that joint coordination will contribute to achieving security and stability in both brotherly countries in particular and the region. generally.

The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Othman Saab, Director of the Arab World Department, Wareef Al-Halabi, Director of the Information Department, Dr. Yamen Yousouf, Director of the Office of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, diplomats from the ministry, and from the Iraqi side, Dr. Osama Mahdi Ghanem, Head of the Arab Department, and Counselor Yassin Al-Hujaimi, Chargé d’Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Syria, Qutaiba Al-Saleh Adviser at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fadel Al-Dujaili, first secretary in the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Suleiman Al-Sadri, a diplomat at the Iraqi embassy in Syria.
