According to experts, the corona pandemic threatens to get out of hand.

The federal and state governments now want to act resolutely and according to uniform criteria, including the capital.

And their head of government makes an announcement to vaccination refusers.

Berlin - In view of the sharp increase in corona infections, Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller has urgently appealed to people to get vaccinated.

"Every day counts," said the SPD politician on Thursday evening after a video conference between the heads of state and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

It is time to accept vaccination offers, first vaccinations as well as booster vaccinations.

"Please do not wait, try to get vaccination appointments now," Müller urged the Berliners.

In the current situation "everyone has to help again".

He asked for your understanding that there could be waiting times in vaccination centers or with some doctors.

But: "We will do everything we can to implement vaccination offers better and faster."

The vaccination rate - almost 70 percent in Berlin - is clearly too low, complained Müller.

"There are too many people who do not accept offers even though they could." In his opinion, this is not due to the fact that there was too little education, advertising, vaccination options, money or determination.

"That is not the reason.

But the reason is that there is too much selfishness and too much indifference, ”said Müller.

"The fact that some actually still believe that in a community based on solidarity it doesn't depend on their behavior." But it also depends.

"Protecting yourself and others is vital," emphasized the head of government, who had already made a similar statement in the Berlin House of Representatives in the morning.

In addition to increasing vaccination offers, it is now time to make it clear, "that it cannot go on forever, that a minority dominates a majority and endangers their health," said Müller. For this purpose, 2G rules (access only for vaccinated and convalescent people) or 2G plus rules (2G plus test, mask or distance rules) would have to be resolutely implemented. It is important that the federal states agreed on a corresponding timetable during the consultation on Thursday.

According to the will of the federal and state governments, uniformly stricter corona measures should take effect when certain exposure thresholds are exceeded in the clinics.

According to the resolution, the benchmark should be the hospitalization rate reported for the respective federal state.

To this end, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) records reported hospital admissions of corona patients per 100,000 inhabitants over a seven-day period.

In Berlin the value on Thursday was 3.4.

According to the outgoing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD), the so-called 2G rule could apply in Berlin from the weekend or from the beginning of the coming week.

"We have decided in which direction it should go, and that is now being formulated," he said on Tuesday on RBB Inforadio.

Business calls for more controls on the 2G rule

There is approval from the Berlin economy for the Senate decision to expand the 2G rule in Berlin, but also the demand for more controls.

“We have to do everything to reduce the number of corona cases again.

A tightening of the contact rules in the direction of 2G is the right way from our point of view, ”said the deputy chief executive of the Association of Business Associations in Berlin and Brandenburg (UVB), Alexander Schirp, on Thursday.

Specifically, if a threshold value of 3 is exceeded, the federal states should only introduce nationwide access rules for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G), for example to events and gastronomy - unless this has already happened in Berlin.

If a value of 6 is exceeded, the federal states should also prescribe test certificates or other measures in certain facilities for vaccinated and convalescent people (2G plus).

The Berlin Senate is already preparing such rules.

At the latest when the threshold of 9 is exceeded, the federal states should then make use of further restrictions.

This is aimed at a clause resolved by the Bundestag: After a corresponding resolution by their parliaments, the states should also be able to impose tougher measures such as contact restrictions or restrictions and bans on events.

Stricter corona rules have only been in effect in Berlin since last Monday: Since then, only those who have been vaccinated and recovered have access to restaurants, cinemas, theaters, museums, galleries or concert halls (2G), but not those who have not been tested (3G).

This also applies to sports and leisure facilities, amusement arcades, hairdressing and beauty salons, fitness and dance studios.

This does not apply to people who have not yet reached the age of 18 and those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
