Two little sentences that did not go unnoticed.
On the sidelines of a trip with the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, devoted to school bullying this Thursday, November 18, Brigitte Macron disapproved of the entry of the pronoun
"iel"
in the little Robert:
"The French language is so beautiful.
And two pronouns is good, ”
she said calmly.
The former French teacher does not approve the entry of the pronoun

Let us recall the facts.
Last October, lexicographers had discreetly integrated the pronoun
"iel"
, followed by the definition:
"Personal pronoun subject of the third person singular and plural, used to refer to a person of any gender
.
"
"We must not triturate the French language"
“Iel”
is used by the LGBTQ + community to refer to
“non-binary” people
. Its entry in the dictionary has been strongly criticized by linguists, lexicographers, and now political figures. The Minister of National Education spoke on the subject just before Brigitte Macron:
“We must not grind the French language, whatever the causes. Feminism is a great cause, but it does not justify the fact of grinding French. It is very good to feminize the names of professions (...) On the other hand the midpoint and the unexpected modifications, that is not good in any respect (...). The French language is complex enough like that, we don't need to add more. ”
The LREM deputy François Jolivet also strongly criticized this innovation of Robert, saying he was
"amazed at the initiative"
and designating it as
"the stigma of the entry into our language of so-called 'inclusive' writing, undoubtedly the precursor of the advent of the 'woke' ideology, destroyer of the values which are ours ”
.
He subsequently sent a letter to the Académie française to share his opinion, in the name of his capacity as
"guardian of the language"
.
